As a New Mexico family photographer available to travel, I love helping families capture the fleeting beauty of each season. Renee reached out, hoping to document her family of five surrounded by the magic of autumn.
Finding the Perfect Fall Location
With the rapid changes of the season and unpredictable weather, finding the ideal location for fall family photos in New Mexico was a challenge. After scouting several spots, I came across a friend’s Facebook post highlighting her recent hike on Aspen Trail, located in Hyde Park near Santa Fe. I immediately thought of Renee and sent her a photo of the trail. She loved it! The golden hues and mountain backdrop were exactly what we both envisioned for the Serna family's autumn photoshoot.
Fall in New Mexico
We scheduled the Serna family session just in time—any later, and the aspens would have shed their vibrant leaves. The golden colors created a warm, inviting backdrop that perfectly complemented the coordinated outfits Renee and I had planned together. The Sernas looked amazing, and their earthy, autumn tones truly enhanced the beautiful outdoor setting.
Renee also brought rustic wooden letters spelling “S E R N A,” which added a charming, personal touch to their portraits — a wonderful idea for any family photography session!
Capturing Authentic Moments
As we moved along Aspen Trail, I captured a mix of posed family portraits and natural, playful moments. The kids were full of smiles, laughter, and energy, bringing so much joy and authenticity to every shot. The stunning golden foliage made it feel like the ultimate outdoor studio, far better than any backdrop you could imagine.
Each child’s individual portrait reflected their unique personality, while the family group shots captured the love, fun, and connection they share.
